The mushrooming Information Communication Technology (ICT) field can offer a source of flexible and reasonably paid income for working carers, so if you are casting your eye around for a new line of work and are prepared to do some re-training through TAFE, University or adult education colleges, then this is an area of work certainly worth investigating further.

In September 2006, the Orange Community Resource Organisation’s Central West Commonwealth Carer Respite Centre received funding from the Commonwealth Government to operate a two-year pilot project to develop support packages for working carers of frail older people in the Central West.

2007 Festival of International Conferences on Caregiving, Disability,
Aging and Technology in Toronto, Canada.
In Australia the issue of carers access to, and ability to remain in
work is now being discussed in the public arena. The debates about
policies and entitlements for carers in the workforce are gaining
momentum and building upon the gains that have been made in the areas
of childcare and flexibility for parents. Work and care is a policy
area that’s time appears to have come.
