We are absolutely thrilled to announce that David Koch, a.k.a. Kochie, has agreed to be the Working Carers Support Gateway’s Guest Host on our first on-line monthly chat room from 8.00-9.00pm on Tuesday, 14 February. No doubt, many of us are now having to start paying the price for all that Christmas cheer. We have received our credit card statements and are wondering how on earth we managed to spend that much over Christmas. What can we do to pay our bills in as short a time as possible and manage our money more effectively in future? This will be a great opportunity for you as a working carer to talk personally to Kochie about your financial concerns and also ask him for general advice on money matters. As well as being the co-host of the very popular Sunrise breakfast show on Channel 7, Kochie is the resident business and finance expert for the Seven and Prime TV networks. He also does daily commentaries on money matters on more than 50 regional radio stations and is the weekly money columnist in New Idea magazine. A best selling author, Kochie has written various books on financial management including a parent’s guide to teaching kids about money. This event will be the first of our regular monthly chats on various issues with high profile guest hosts. Other upcoming topics will include “Negotiating in the Workplace”, “Relationships and Intimacy” and “Managing Stress”. We would love to receive your ideas as well so please let us know what subjects you would find of interest for the chat room. To participate in the chat room, you will need to register prior to the chat. Click on CHAT to find all the necessary information to log-on for the chat. We look forward to your participation in the chat room on 14 February. If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to CONTACT US here.

In addition to spending more free time in the home and around the neighbourhood, summer holidays are a time when many families entertain and visit friends and relatives. Unfamiliar places can be full of hazards for smaller children. Parents should be mindful that, while adults are catching up socially, children will actively look for alternative entertainment.

We all look to the New Year and see opportunities ripe with promise. For working carers we face a brave new year of change and challenges – some good, some bad. The industrial relations landscape will be changed beyond recognition in 2006. The bad news is the latest claim that workplace relations reforms will deliver smaller wage rises for low-income earners and cut productivity in the short term as employers hire greater numbers of less efficient workers.
