The Association of Genetic Support of Australasia is responding to the support needs for adult siblings where families are caring for someone with a genetic condition. |  |
In the past, the focus for siblings in Australia has been on prevention and supporting younger siblings and their families. However the support available for adult siblings has been limited. A number of adult siblings from AGSA have expressed an interest in forming a support network with others in a similar situation.
Therefore, AGSA would like to fill this void by introducing an Adult Siblings Group. The group consisting of siblings age 18 years and above will meet in September and hopefully December this year. The primary goals of the meetings are to provide an informal, supportive environment where there is an opportunity to share and gain information, ideas and family experiences.

The Workshop will be facilitated by Alison Trainor from Northcott Disability Services with a resentation on ‘Siblings: Brother and Sisters of People with Special Needs’. A group discussion will follow on issues with growing up with a sibling with special needs
