It was recently announced that a NSW Parliamentary (Upper House) Inquiry into the Program of Appliances for Disabled People (PADP) will commence on Friday, June 27, 2008.

Anyone who has been dealing with the NSW PADP and had experienced the good, the bad and the ugly should be encouraged to make a submission to raise any and/or all the issues that are having a negative impact on you as a professional, your business or service and of course your clients.

The state and territory funded and operated equipment programmes are highly valued by the clients that are eligible to access them, however, it isĀ  reported that the equipment programmes are under funded and under resourced leading to an ongoing detrimental impact on all stakeholders. This NSW Parliamentary Inquiry will give people the opportunity to feed into this process where it is expected the final report and its recommendations will achieve a positive outcome for all stakeholders.

The NSW Parliamentary Inquiry is the result of the hard work being undertaken by SCI Australia. The therapists and prescribers that responded to questions and Sean Lomas, SCI Australia Policy & Information Manager, provided details of clients that have been waiting for unacceptable periods of time to receive their equipment through the NSW PADP. Raising these issues has definitely helped in achieving the commencement of this Parliamentary Inquiry.
