Many paid work and family provisions are contained in organisational policies in addition to, or instead of, awards and agreements.

These policies are often wide ranging and some businesses provide excellent conditions to assist employees to balance their work and family responsibilities. A number of these are showcased in the annual Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI)/Business Council of Australia (BCA) National Work and Family Awards (see www.workplace.gov.au).

While such policies may not be legally enforceable if not included in awards, EBAs or ITEAs, it may be possible for an employee to take legal action for breach of contract.
