Complaints to Services
If you are a working carer you are likely to be very dependent on a range of people, services and organisations that assist you with the responsibilities of caring.

Sometimes problems can rise about which you wish to complain. When something is unfair, or you believe you or the person you are caring for has been treated unreasonably, you have a right to speak out and have the problem rectified. It is important to know and act on your rights in this area to avoid the loss of help that may make it possible for you to continue working and caring.

Unfortunately there is no up to date website for following the complaints process. This is something which the Gateway is looking into providing. There is an old page provided by Carers NSW here: http://www.carersnsw.asn.au/letstalk/complaints.htm but you should keep an eye on the new Carers Australia website which will have new information hopefully coming soon.

What next?

If you would like to discuss the issues raised in this Fact Sheet you may like to try:

  • checking out our Services Directory to find the local services that may be able to assist you as a working carer
  • contacting Carers Australia on 1800 242 636 for information, support, referral and advice about your caring role and services that can assist you. If English is not your first language and you need assistance in talking with the Centre, contact the Translating and Interpreting Service on 131450.
  • subscribing to our monthly newsletter, Work 'n' Care, for regular information and support regarding the issues facing working carers.
